The University of Macerata aims to contribute to the development of people and society through advanced research that is focused on excellence and internationalisation. We firmly believe in the added value that social and human sciences bring to the understanding of complex socio-economic and political issues, according to an interdisciplinary perspective.

Innovation is frequently the result of well-balanced interdisciplinary approaches. The ability to imagine future developments and to come up with truly intelligent and problem-solving strategies is never simply a question of adopting or adapting new technologies.

Critical and creative thinking plays a fundamental role in this process and the community of scholars and researchers at UNIMC finds itself in a unique position for providing the necessary skills and competences.

Student Life

Studying in Macerata can offer a unique cultural experience for students not only those from Italy, but for students from all over the world as the Eastern side of Central Italy has plenty to offer. Macerata is a medium-sized town (45,000 inhabitants) standing in the Province of Macerata which lies in the centre of the Marche region which is nestled between the sea and mountains and surrounded by soft rolling hills. The quality of life in Macerata is excellent because of the peaceful atmosphere, clean air, beautiful parks and natural landscape.

The Adriatic Sea Coast, ski resorts, and the Sibillini Mountains National Park are all relatively nearby. The Province of Macerata is notable for its high employment rate and the large number of small and medium-sized businesses.

Many companies in the Province are international leaders in various fields including footwear, electronics, lighting technology, food products, furniture, toys and leather goods. The province has several attractions for lovers of art and architecture. It is rich with churches, abbeys, historic palaces and museums that tell the tales of different historical periods and the important people who are linked to our country. Moreover, the theatre and outdoor opera house (the Sferisterio) every year welcomes tourists with a rich theatre and opera season, featuring internationally famous artists and shows.

The city of Macerata offers plenty of ways to enjoy yourself, with several coffee shops, restaurants and pubs throughout the historic centre. These places are popular gathering spots for many university students and young people to hang out and make new friends. All year round there are lots of enjoyable things to do in Macerata, including cultural events, sporting activities and competitions, theatrical and musical shows.

Two big events in particular have drawn the attention to Macerata, not only from other parts of Italy but also from other countries of the world:the opera season Macerata Opera and the singer-songwriter song festival Musicultura, both of whichtake place in the unique and spectacular setting of the Sferisterio Arena.

The University of Macerata is an active partner of the Musicultura festival. This music contest gives students the chance to be members of the editorial staff and jury. If you prefer athletic events, the University of Macerata has also been for years one of the official sponsors of Lube Volley, the Italian male volleyball champions. Through a combination of sport, young people and education Macerata is home to a winning team.
