When it was created in 1881, HEC (‘Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales’) was frowned upon. Only a few supporters of economic ‘liberalism’ and a handful of firm believers of progress by education were really convinced. At that time, the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry discards this as a consequence of current sociological and psychological rigidities.

The HEC campus provides a wide range of accommodation facilities, which gives students a full access to the HEC experience. Surrounded by the woods and many sports facilities, students from all HEC programs share unique moments among an exceptional student body representing more than 40 nationalities. HEC students are offered the possibility to live on Campus by renting a room in one of the 18 student halls, which are divided into more than 1,400 furnished rooms and flats.
Located close to Paris and Versailles, the 300-acre wooded campus is one of the largest in Europe. The campus is also close to ”La Défense”, one of the largest European business districts housing the headquarters of many multinational companies. These companies interact with HEC Paris both as partners and as potential recruiters.

Sport plays an important role in student life that's why HEC campus, playground for self-fulfillment, provides the opportunity to practice many sports and has high-quality facilities, indoors or outdoors.
HEC teams compete with other universities in all sports, such as the Business School Coupe de France competition and the World Business School Rugby Tournament and Les Mercuriales.

HEC considers community life as one of the cornerstones of the education it provides. It develops a sense of responsibility, audacity and an enterprising mind. Belonging to one or more clubs and associations is an absolute must on the campus! It is the best way to make friends, meet company representatives, share ideas or hobbies with others, have fun and take part in an activity.
Over the years, HEC students have founded and manage today over 130 clubs and associations covering areas such as: sports, culture, professional activities, humanitarian aid, public affairs.
