About

History

Radboud University Nijmegen was established on 17 October 1923 under the name Catholic University Nijmegen. With their own university, Dutch Catholics sought to promote the emancipation of Roman Catholics in the Netherlands, who at that time were strongly underrepresented in public administration, the legal profession, medicine and other sectors.

Education

Radboud University is a place where you are challenged to discover what you need in order to obtain a high-quality and internationally accredited degree. The university challenges its students to actively participate in the academic community and trains them to be critical and committed academics.

The universityís academic staff come from all over the world, and a large proportion of our student population has spent at least some months studying at a university abroad.Radboud University aspires to quality. Research

The research profile of Radboud University has two main components: an academic and a societal profile. The academic profile covers the academic disciplines in which the University is engaged and the sub-disciplines in which it excels. The societal profile covers the societal themes with which the University is connected through its academic research.

Radboud University Nijmegen is home to several research institutions, including Institute for Management Research (IMR), NanoLab Nijmegen, Donders Centre for Cognition and the Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging.

Student services

Radboud University Nijmegen offers a number of outstanding facilities which makes it increasingly easy for foreign students to study in Nijmegen:

All the University buildings, lecture rooms, facilities, research institutes and the University Hospital are situated together on the former Heyendael estate.

Housing services

Most students in Nijmegen live in student complexes and student houses, share an apartment or rent a room in a house with a landlady or landlord. Each student has its own private room and normally shares the kitchen and bathroom facilities.

International Bachelorís students who start an English-taught Bachelorís programme can request assistance in finding a suitable accommodation. International Masterís students who start an English-taught Masterís programme will be guaranteed housing, provided their request for admission to the Master's programme was received before the deadline for the service package, and the International Office has received the letter of acceptance from Student Affairs.

Library services

The Library is a place where students can look up information, study, meet up, relax and to work together. The University Library has recently been renovated and expanded. More than 250 workplaces have been added, under which rooms to work in groups and silent workplaces. All in all, there are more than 1,000 seats where students and employees, but also external visitors are able to work.

ICT services

ICT services provides IT services to the academic community. The university has contracts with several software companies, which enables its students and employees to get Ďfreeí (i.e., paid for by the university) software. Besides centrally financed services, it is also possible to make use of a number of services at a charge, for example hosting and workplace support.

Student Life

Campus life

The University is not just for lectures: you can also become acquainted with art and culture. Besides musical performances, cabaret nights and discussion programmes on the CultuurCafť stage, as well as movies, there are also lunch performances, and a daily opportunity to enjoy various exhibitions. Moreover, Culture on the Campus organises festivals in various parts of the campus, as well as working together with the study clubs of Radboud University and the various stages in town.

Sports facilities

The Radboud Sports Centre is the largest and most versatile sports centre in Nijmegen, with indoor facilities that include a 1000m≤ modern fitness area, four squash courts, four multipurpose rooms, two sports halls, a gym, and indoor cycling room, a dojo, a climbing wall and a boulder wall; and outdoor facilities that include twelve tennis courts, two beach volleyball courts, two artificial turf hockey fields, an artificial turf football and rugby pitch, a 400-metre running track, a climbing wall, a small basketball court and a small artificial turf practice field. The Sports Cafť, with a spacious roof terrace, is the perfect place to grab a drink and a bite to eat.

Student clubs

Students at Radboud University are very eager to promote international contacts. They also realise that when foreign students come to Nijmegen it is essential for them to feel at home. Foreign students are therefore cordially invited to participate on a fully equal basis in a number of student organizations, for example: social clubs, study clubs, ideological associations and cultural societies.

Accreditation

NVAO is entrusted by law to accredit all existing Bachelorís and Masterís degree courses and to validate new study programmes at government-funded institutions of higher education and at institutions approved (but not funded) by the Dutch government. Institutions that have neither government funding nor approval can apply for accreditation of post-initial Masterís degree courses.
