The Faculty of Education has its roots in the first Finnish-language teacher training college, Jyväskylä Teacher Seminary, founded in 1863. In 1934, this teacher training college became a College of Education, which in turn became the University of Jyväskylä in 1966.

Our research topics range from early childhood education to educational gerontology. Research areas of special expertise are school education, research methodology, multidisciplinary approach in educational research, and research on extra-school education.


We aim to further internationalise our teaching and learning activities by international mobility, recruitment of students and staff, course and curriculum development, and by adding intercultural and international dimensions in staff competence enhancement.
