The courses are focused on Cryptology Mathematics, information system security and the concepts and techniques to secure computer networks and multimedia applications. Training speakers come as much from Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) (mainly from the "Institut Fourier", the LJK and the Verimag laboratories) than from the INPG (mostly from the ID). There are also external speakers who come from the CESTI, theEPFL, or from companies (such as Mataru for computer security audits).

This specialization is unique in the region, and was recognized by the French Prime Minister’s office as one of the 12 degrees in this domain in France. The Cryptology, Security and Information Coding Master speciality is a high-level degree which last one year. This programme is offered at the Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA).

This speciality also benefits from the research environment. Lecturers and speakers are experts in this domain. Indeed, this can be seen through their participation in the definition of worldwide standards, their involvement with the Research Ministry, and through the set up and the follow-up of cryptology research projects.

Programme Structure

The lectures and tutorials are mandatory, however, special arrangements can be made for some courses. The courses are grouped into three parts:

  • Complementary courses in Mathematics or Computer Science. Since the students may come from different domains, they make it possible to homogenize knowledge.
  • Common courses until December.
  • Specialization courses. The students are expected to choose 3 of the 4-course units offered. The choice of an external course unit is possible, but it has to be validated by the person in charge of the degree.

This speciality also contains a training course in a company, which lasts from 4 to 6 months. The topic of the training course is defined by the student university tutor and by the person in charge of this internship in the company. It results in a document explaining the work camed out: topic, issues, methods, results.

At the end of the training course, the students make a presentation of their work to a jury. This generally takes place in June or in September. This jury is made up of the tutor, the person in charge of the internship in the company, and of the person in charge of the speciality. The training course accounts for 30 credits (ECTS).
