About

 The Cognitive Psychology and Psychophysiology is offered by the University of Groningen. You will learn about the latest theories and insights in this broad area, and you will get hands-on experience with research tools such as advanced reaction time analyses, EEG and TMS. 

You will put all this knowledge into practice during your master's research project. In the programme, we put a strong emphasis on applications of all the theory you study: over and over again, we will ask “how can we use this knowledge in everyday life?”

Job prospects:

  • CPP is a broad programme that does train you for a specific job. The skills and knowledge you will gain are useful in many different functions. However, most obvious would be a position as researcher or consultant.

Job examples:

  • Researcher - CPP graduates are well prepared for a career as researcher, for example as PhD student at a university, but also in the private (Philips, Unilever) or government sector (ministries, TNO), or with NGOs(SWOV)
  • Advisor/Consultant - You can use your skills and knowledge as CPP-graduate to advise companies, NGOs of the government about the latest developments in cognitive psychology and psychophysiology, for example in the context of human-computer interaction, or on recent developments such as neuromarketing.

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00.     The CAE test – or the Cambridge Advanced English – is an exam for applicants who wish to get a Certificate in Advanced English. To receive the Advanced certificate, test-takers must score between 142 and 210 on the Cambridge English: Advanced test. Read more about CAE.

    The TOEFL – or Test OF English as a Foreign Language – offers a paper-based test (PBT). The final, overall PBT score ranges between 310 and 677, and is based on an average taken from the three test components (listening, structure, and reading). Academic Requirements

Requirements:
  • Applicants require a Bachelor's degree in Psychology or an equivalent competence in terms of: Knowledge of disciplinary subjects in psychology and their applications, Good skills in designing psychological research and reporting it, Solid knowledge of methods of data collection and statistical analysis,
  • Applicants should have qualifications that justify the expectation of successful completion of the programme in due time. These qualifications include knowledge and experience in relevant theories, statistics and experience with statistical software packages. 
  • Non-native English speakers must moreover provide evidence of satisfactory results for one of the standard tests.
