The Master in Microelectronics at the University of Bergen teaches students the basics of how to create micro-meter scale electronic designs and components, as well as the specialised equipment and the practical application connected to microelectronics. The Master’s programme will end with a research thesis.

The Masters degree in physics is offered in both pure and applied physics.

The programme is aimed at students with interest in physics and related fields, who intend to qualify for research, development or teaching and seek employment where education in physics is required or considered an advantage.

Learning Outcomes

After completion of a masters degree in micro electronics the candidate should have achieved good knowledge within the specialised research topic of the thesis, and be able to:

- Utilize structured design methods and advanced design tools for modelling, production, testing and documentation of microelectronics

- Work independently on a research topic relevant to micro electronics

- Explain relevant experimental methods in micro electronics

- Establish contacts within a research community to gather necessary information and tools for conducting research within micro electronics.

- Present a research topic and results in a written report, as well as in an oral presentation.

If the masters degree is achieved with a grade of C or better, the candidate is qualified for PhD studies within micro electronics.

    The TOEFL – or Test OF English as a Foreign Language – offers a paper-based test (PBT). The final, overall PBT score ranges between 310 and 677, and is based on an average taken from the three test components (listening, structure, and reading).     The TOEFL – or Test Of English as a Foreign Language – offers an internet-based test (iBT). The final, overall iBT score ranges between 0 and 120, and includes a scaled average from the four components (reading, listening, speaking, and writing). Read more about TOEFL (iBT).
