The Master in Space Physics at the University of Bergen teaches students the basics of natural processes that take place in the upper layers of the atmosphere. From Heliophysics, Planetary Magnetospheres, Auroras and Cosmic Rays, and Synchrotron Radiation, the curriculum covers subjects that can help the study of space weather, communication and space satellites, and more.

Learning Outcomes

After completion of a masters degree in space physics the candidate should have achieved good knowledge within the specialised research topic of the thesis, and be able to:

- Give an account of the basic ideas of space physics

- Obtain, analyze and summarise relevant literature in space physics

- Explain relevant experimental methods in space physics

- Work independently on a research topic relevant to space physics

- Establish contacts within a research community to gather necessary information and tools for conducting research within space physics.

- Evaluate and discuss own results in the light of hypotheses and established knowledge

-Present a research topic and results in a written report, as well as in an oral presentation.

If the masters degree is achieved with a grade of C or better, the candidate is qualified for PhD studies within space physics.
