The Economics program at Stockholm School of Economics puts an emphasis on problem-solving skills that can be applied in a wide variety of settings and offers an invaluable start to your career. By using modern economic analysis and quantitative empirical methods we give you the tools to analyze complex real world problems in public policy making, as well as in private business and international organizations.

We offer two specializations:
  • Applied Economic Analysis
  • International Economics

The specializations in Applied Economic Analysis and International Economics have a joint intake. Once accepted, you choose your specialization after completing a common first semester.

The Stockholm School of Economics's program is best suited for students with a strong undergraduate background in economics. It demands an excellent analytical ability and the ambition to put your work to the test with the very best people in the field. All courses are given in English by internationally renowned faculty.

You will be equipped to address challenging economic problems. By means of modern economic analysis and quantitative empirical methods it will give you the tools to analyze complex real world problems in public policy making as well as in private business and in international organizations.                   English Language Requirements

                    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00.                     Required score: 600

                    The GMAT - or Graduate Management Admission Test - is a frequent requirement for admission at management and business schools across the world. The GRE score ranges between 200 and 800 and measures the verbal and quantitative reasoning of test-takers. Read more about the GMAT.

                    The score range represents scores typically accepted at this institution.

                    The GRE - or Graduate Record Examinations - is a standardized test administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS) and is part of the admission requirements at many graduate schools and business schools. The GRE score uses a range between 130 and 170 and measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing.

                  Should contain at least 90 ECTS in Social Sciences (including but not limited to Economics, Business Administration and Political Science), with a minimum of 30 ECTS specifically in Economics.

                  2. GMAT or GRE test result

                  • GRE score (quantitative) of 155 or more.
                  3. Proficiency in English

                  SSE has a number of scholarships for students required to pay the tuition fees. The scholarship application is submitted together with the application for the program. Only applicants who fulfil the eligibility requirements for the program will be considered for scholarships.

                  The scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. All applications are assessed by a selection committee, taking into consideration the relevance and the quality of the personal motivation, academic excellence, relevant extracurricular activities, program cohort diversity and fair distribution of scholarships across the programs.
