The graduate level Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Architecture (PBDA) from Athabasca University explores advances in sustainable environmental design and urban theory as well as management theory and practice.


This Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Architecture (PBDA) program offered by Athabasca University is primarily intended as preparation for entry to the profession of architecture but is also beneficial for other careers in the field; public and private careers in urban and construction planning, management, sustainability, and design; and studies of the built environment. Graduates will be able to continue their studies through graduate programs in Management, Arts, Planning, Design, Resource Management, Landscape Design, and Architecture.

The program consists of 27 credits but is designed to provide flexibility in delivery and duration.

    Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of 2.3 or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

    Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

    Applicants to the Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Architecture (PBDA) program must have the following requirements:
    • Completion of the Athabasca University Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BSc Arch) degree with a minimum grade point average of 2.3


    • A baccalaureate degree in architecture from an accredited post-secondary institution as evaluated by the Program Admissions Committee, with a minimum grade point average of 2.3.
