Studies in engineering physics create a basis for the technological applications of physics and open doors for different careers in industry, science and research. A profound understanding of physics and mathematics can be employed in finding novel solutions to both present-day and future’s challenges. This Engineering Physics programme is offered by Aalto University.

This Engineering Physics programme is offered by Aalto University.

Studies in Master's Programme in Engineering Physics are strongly research oriented. Almost half of the MSc graduates continue towards a doctorate. The research focus areas range from experimental and theoretical materials physics to nanophysics and nanoscience, and to novel energy solutions. The study programme differs from a more classical university physics in its proximity to concrete, practical research questions. Its connection to real-life problems is very strong.

Career opportunities

Graduates of the Engineering Physics programme have traditionally found an exceptionally wide variety of careers both in the private sector, industry, and in the public sector ranging from research to consulting and management positions. A strong education in physics, closely knit to the research at Aalto University and Department of Applied Physics, is also an excellent starting point for a career in academia.

Typical job titles of recent graduates include e.g. Analyst, Applications Engineer, Cryo Engineer, Data Scientist, Design Engineer, Fuel Expert, Junior Consultant, Nuclear Safety Engineer, Project Engineer, Project Manager, Quality Engineer, Research Scientist, System Engineer, Test Design Engineer, Research and Development Engineer, Reliability Engineer
