Under the guidance of one of Turkey’s leading family foundations, the Sabanci Foundation, the Sabanci Group established Sabanci University in July 1994. More than 50 academics from 22 countries, students and private sector leaders participated in the Search Conference in 1995 to decide upon the vision and mission of the university. The University began its first academic year on October 20, 1999.
Sabanci University provides a multidisciplinary education across its three faculties. At SU students have the chance to choose their majors after their first or second academic year. This allows students to decide what program to study at university with greater understanding about higher education and about their own academic and career interests.

All research projects are conducted within the faculties (Faculty of Engineering & Natural Sciences, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences and Faculty of Management).

On the serene campus of Sabanci University students may find facilities to meet all of their daily needs. SU is the university with the highest student-housing rate in Turkey. There are two or four person rooms. All dormitory rooms have showers and baths, wardrobes, and private telephones, as well as internet connections for all students. No curfews or "lights-out" policies are enforced.
All students who are admitted to SU are entitled to stay at the housing facilities for their first year. Out-of-city students have priority in housing allocation for their subsequent years.
With a 600-person seating capacity and shelving space for some 300,000 volumes, the 9,432 square meter state-of-the-art facility includes an impressive variety of electronically-equipped study carrels and multi-function rooms. In total, the Information Center features 480 internet access points. To facilitate access, the Center is open seven days a week.
All SU students are provided with private health insurance in their first months in Turkey that is valid most hospitals in Istanbul. The campus also boasts a Health Center in which medical examinations are carried out, and necessary treatments are provided by physicians during day and night. When required, the patients are held and given treatments in special clinical observation rooms.
Sabanci University's sprawling campus is located outside of the city center, far from the hectic life of the city. The campus has all the amenities necessary for students, including simple necessities such as a market, bank, post office, barber and hair salon. In addition the campus boasts a movie theater, the Arts and Performance Center, a fully equipped gym and more.
As part of its Green Campus policy, SU planted more than 100.000 trees, flowers, bushes, shrubs, etc. since 1999. Now, on campus there are more than 170.000 plants, of which 100 are natural and 150 are new-planted species. There are also over 1.000 Sakura trees are on our campus which is the richest plantation in our country.
The ultra-modern Sports Center on the campus is equipped with one basketball and volleyball court with a capacity for 1,200 spectators; squash courts; one strength, conditioning and cardio exercise room; two fitness and dance studios; one climbing wall; one pilates reformer studio; six locker rooms.
The University’s beautiful lake is encircled by a jogging track. In addition, the entire campus is a “bicycle friendly” zone.
Among the most popular sporting facilities on campus are the two soccer fields, one that complies with FIFA standards and the other with artificial turf.
Sabanci University Student Clubs are founded and managed by students. In these clubs, which present myriad opportunities for learning opportunities and experiences that enrich students' lives; students acquire and develop skills that they will help them to achieve success in their future lives.
There are dozens of clubs in SU, including but not limited to the Drama Club, AstroSu Society, Fashion Club, Horseback Riding Club, FRP and Game Club, International Relations and Diplomacy Club, International Students Club, Literature Club, MBA Club, Model United Nations Club, Music Club, Outdoor Sports Club, Politics Club, Radio Club, and Robotics Club.
