The University of Veterinary Medicine in Košice was established by an Act of the Slovak National Council No. 1/1950 of the Civil Code, originally as Veterinary College in Košice.
The name was changed to the University of Veterinary Medicine in Košice by an Act of the Slovak National Council No. 137/1992 of the Code on amendment of the name of Veterinary College in Košice.
Nowadays the University offers two English study programmes: 6-year degree programme for secondary-school graduates and 4-year degree post-BSc. programme for bachelors in agricultural, veterinary or biological sciences, both leading to the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM).
Student dormitories offer accommodation and dining in two buildings some 500 metres from the university grounds. The facilities offer 414 rooms and a capacity of 830 beds for Slovak and foreign students.
The rooms are fully furnished and are equipped with an Internet connection.
The study programmes are provided by 11 departments, 5 clinics, University Veterinary Hospital and university special extramural facilities, which ensure high level of practical preparation and permanent contact with animals.
The complex also includes sports fields, a gymnasium and two fitness centres. In the spaces of the student dormitories students have the opportunity to get involved in activities of different types of interesting clubs.
University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Kosice is approved and accredited by the EAEVE.
