New England College is a regionally accredited, private college located in Henniker, New Hampshire, a classic New England village just 20 minutes from Concord, the state capital, and 90 minutes from Boston, Massachusetts. NEC is committed to experiential learning that promotes civic engagement and social responsibility. The Office of Engaged Learning supports academic programs and co-curricular activities, providing students with many opportunities to become actively involved in their educational experiences in communities beyond the campus. NEC traces its roots to the 1940s when service men and women returning home from World War II were eager to get their education with the help of funding from the new GI Bill®. Academic visionary and entrepreneur Boone Tillet chose Henniker as the perfect site for a new college dedicated to educating returning veterans. In 1946, NEC welcomed its first class of 67 men and one woman. After only three years, enrollment at NEC had more than quadrupled, growth that continued over the next 60 years as the college attracted students from all walks of life and added new programs, faculty and campus facilities.
Today, NEC is home to approximately 1,050 undergraduate and 1,400 graduate students representing 33 states and more than 24 countries. NEC employs nearly 400 employees, including 68 full-time faculty, 76% of whom hold terminal degrees. The college’s values and student-first approach have attracted business pioneers, noted public servants, successful writers and performers who are proud to be included among NEC’s distinguished alumni.
