Australian Catholic University (ACU) engages the Catholic Intellectual Tradition to bring a distinct perspective to higher education.



Australian Catholic University (ACU) was opened on 1 January 1991 following the amalgamation of four Catholic tertiary institutions in eastern Australia:

  • Catholic College of Education Sydney in New South Wales
  • Institute of Catholic Education in Victoria
  • McAuley College of Queensland
  • Signadou College of Education in the Australian Capital Territory.

By fostering and advancing knowledge in education, health, commerce, the humanities, the sciences and technologies, law, and the creative arts, ACU contributes to its local, national and international communities.

Student services

  • ACU has seven campuses around Australia. We welcome staff and students of all beliefs and backgrounds.
  • Students undertake professional placements and volunteer work throughout their studies.
  • Each campus student association hosts events such as barbecues, balls and concerts. There are also clubs, societies and sporting events such as ACU Games and University Games.
  • ACU students can attend an overseas university in more than 16 countries, complete international internships, and work in community programs around the world.
  • The Office of Student Success provides academic skills, career development and counselling services, as well as support for people with special needs or disabilities on each campus.

Housing services

Finding suitable accommodation is an important part of feeling settled and at home in your new city. ACU Living and Learning Communities aim to provide the opportunities for student support and development. ACU takes the security of our staff and students seriously. We have security officers on site supported by rapid response mobile patrols and staff or students can contact our National Operations Centre for Security at any time of the day or night.

ACU is pleased to offer two accommodation options for students in 2016:

  • ACU Managed Residences self-catered accommodation in share houses managed by the university
  • MacKillop House fully catered accommodation for female students.

ICT services

The ACU IT Facilities, and in particular Internet, computer and telephone facilities, are important resources that the University makes available to staff and students with the understanding that they are used for research, teaching and community services in agreement with the University mission and mandate. Wi-Fi internet costs are included in the total fee.

Medical services

ACU provides a range of student services to assist and support students. The Brisbane and Melbourne campus medical centres offer services such as general check-ups, travel vaccinations, prescriptions and other services that would be provided by your local doctor.

The campus medical centres are welcoming, relaxing, private environments in which to receive excellence in health and well-being care.

Each campus student association hosts events such as barbecues, balls and concerts. There are also clubs, societies and sporting events such as ACU Games and University Games.

Sports facilities

ACU offers social, team and representative sporting clubs, competitions, events and activities.

  • Social sport: Whether you are a competitive person or just love to play sport, social sport is the perfect way to get involved in university life.
  • Sports clubs: We provide a wide range of opportunities on all campuses whether you are a first-time sportsperson or seasoned student athlete.
  • University sports: Join a team and compete at one of our ACU or Australian University Sport events. Whether you prefer team or individual sports these events cater to all interests.
  • Sports Activity Officers organise and run all your health and sport activities on and off campus.

Student clubs

Each ACU campus has its own student association that you can join. The campus-based groups are committed to enhancing your experience at ACU by providing representation and support. Your Association runs regular social events, promotes your interests in the relevant ACU forums and works with the University to enhance student life on campus.

ACUNSA is a key student organisation at the University. In the interests of all ACU students, ACUNSA is committed to enhancing students' experience at university by providing representation and support. ACUNSA members participate in a variety of national ACU committees to advocate for the views and interests of all students.

  • The University is registered with the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS), which gives us authorisation to enrol international students.
