About

History

  • The official nickname for the University of Kentucky's athletics teams is "Wildcats." The nickname became synonymous with UK shortly after a 6-2 football victory over Illinois on Oct. 9, 1909, on the road.
  • Today, the Wildcat mascot also attends several academic functions as well and generally serves as a friendly ambassador for the University.

Student services

A university is more than bricks and mortar. More than anything else, it is defined by its people. The administration at the University of Kentucky is committed to ensuring that UK is a premier public flagship and land grant research university. That means doing everything possible to foster a community of student success, discovery, public service and care by supporting faculty and staff who deliver UK’s vision, mission and values.

Housing services

Our North Campus residence halls are conveniently located close to many dining options and are just a short walk to downtown Lexington, Rupp Arena, the UK Student Center, White Hall Classroom Building and Patterson Office Tower.

Library services

The King Library Press, founded in 1956, is devoted to the tradition of fine printing and produces books and broadsides. Typesetting, printing, and binding are all done at the Press and there are opportunities for apprentices. The Press is located in the King Library at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.

ICT services

Information Technology Services (ITS) provides IT resources utilized by University of Kentucky (UK) students, faculty, staff, visitors, members of the University community, citizens of the Commonwealth, and beyond. ITS divisions include:

Medical services

UK HealthCare is the hospitals and clinics of the University of Kentucky. But it is so much more. It is 9,000 people – physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals – all dedicated to providing the most advanced, most effective care available, not just in Kentucky but anywhere.

Student Life

Campus life

What's it really like to be a Wildcat? In a word – awesome! The University of Kentucky can provide you with a world-class education, filled with the possibility of new ideas and learning experiences that will prepare you for the future. But life on campus also offers plenty of other experiences beyond what takes place solely in a classroom.

Living on campus makes it easy to meet new people who share your interests; UK's Living Learning Program allows you to live and study subjects and topics with other students right in your residence hall. Outside your room, you can explore dozens of great dining options ranging from home-cooking to international fare.

Sports facilities

And you can make sure you stay in shape at the Johnson Center, a state-of-the-art fitness facility; it features the latest workout equipment, basketball and racquetball courts and a rock-climbing wall right in the middle of it all.

Student clubs

Getting involved in a student organization is not just fun and games (though they are a lot of fun); it's about making you a happier and more successful Wildcat. Research shows that students who are involved with a student organization are more connected to their university and perform better in the classroom. And with more than 450 student organizations, there's an activity for you at the University of Kentucky.

  • Chamber Music Society at the University of Kentucky (UK CMS)
