University of Massachusetts Lowell

Lowell, Massachusetts, United States
University of Massachusetts Lowell (UMass Lowell) is a global campus in a global city. Founded in the early days of the American Industrial Revolution, the City of Lowell has always attracted people from every corner of the world – first to build its canals and mills, then to provide banking, retail, cultural, education and other professional services to the growing city.

In recent decades, people have arrived here to work in the new technologies, from microelectronics to biotechnology and nanomanufacturing. They have found a city that not only innovates, but offers a rich cultural life. Nearby are the big city offerings of Boston as well as coastal towns and beaches and mountains to the west and north.UMass Lowell has been a vital member of the community for nearly 120 years, educating the engineers, scientists, managers, teachers, artists and health professionals who help make this region a good place to live, work and learn. At UMass Lowell, we offer an education that is rigorous, relevant and engaging. It starts with Learning Communities – small groups of students with similar majors who share core classes and living quarters. This enables them to stay better connected with each other and with professors in their area of interest.Interdisciplinary learning prepares students to address challenges in industry and in society and is the focus of learning here at UMass Lowell. Interdisciplinary majors include robotics and forensics; students are also encouraged to customize their own combination of a major and minor uniquely suited to their interest.
