University of Louisiana at Monroe

Los Angeles, California, United States
ULM is a unique university that you must experience first-hand. A campus visit with a ULM Hawk Seeker is the best way to learn about ULM's academic programs, student life, and student services. We welcome prospective students all year long, and we encourage you to come and find out why students are choosing to call ULM their home.

About

History

In September 1931, the University opened for its first session in Brown Hall as Ouachita Parish Junior College, which was operated as part of the Ouachita Parish School System. In 1934, Louisiana State University received authority from the State Legislature to operate the facilities of the University as Northeast Center of Louisiana State University.

Education

The University of Louisiana at Monroe has followed a course of vigorous growth in its transition from a junior college to an institution offering a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Research

  • The inaugural Student Research Symposium, held in the spring of 2001, featured the outstanding work of some 85 ULM students.
  • The Student Research Symposium continues to grow and last year presentations were made by 100 students.
  • We encourage and invite our outstanding student-researchers who have participated in the Symposium in previous years to do so again this year.

Career

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Career Connections resources are provided free of charge to employers and to student job seekers. All hiring and compensation for work performed by student employees is handled directly between the student and the employer. Career Connections does not perform background checks on students applying for jobs, nor on employers posting job opportunities. Employers and students are encouraged to request reference information from each other as needed to establish qualifications, credentials and overall fit between the employer and the student applicant.
