Housing services

Full-time undergraduates are not eligible to claim state benefits during their course, including Income Support (IS), Housing Benefit (HB), Council Tax Benefit (CTB) or Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA).

To help you find the right place for you, our private sector housing adviser in the accommodation office is here to help.

In partnership with the University of Southampton and Southampton City Council, we have compiled an accredited directory of private student accommodation in Southampton and the surrounding area, the scheme is called SASSH.

Library services

The library and learning services (LLS) aim to provide resources, services and expertise which will support the University’s staff and students in their teaching, learning and research.

You can expect from us a pleasant and welcoming environment where you can study and work individually and in groups and access to a range of services and resources that are relevant to your learning and research.

ICT services

Access to the internet at Student Residences is via WiFi, provided by StudentCom. StudentCom is the exclusive provider of broadband services in Southampton Solent University student residences.

All resident students will have up to 40mb broadband access FREE of charge. Other broadband options are available at additional cost if required.

Medical services

Throughout the academic year, the counselling service runs a variety of free workshops and groups, to help students with specific issues. If you are an international student from outside the EU/EEA and you have paid the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) you are entitled to full health care from the beginning of your stay in the UK on the same basis as UK residents.

Here at Southampton Solent University, our state of the art resources, easy access to student support and flexible study spaces ensure that students can make the most out of their time on campus.

Sports facilities

We have over 30 teams competing nationally and internationally. Southampton is a great sporting city with 160 clubs covering over 50 different sports. The Sports Development Team helps these clubs to grow their activities and plays an active role to enhance sporting opportunities and provisions within the city. The team, in partnership with other local organisations, is also in charge of developing the current portfolio of university competitions and leagues.

Student clubs

The Students’ Union is an organisation that seeks to enrich your student experience and open doors of opportunity throughout your life at university. It is independent of the University and is run for students by students.

It is also a registered charity and as a Solent student, you’re automatically a member.

We have a great bar, café and shop but also we are here to support you throughout your university experience. We offer advice, support, representation, events, societies, sports clubs, work experience and volunteering opportunities.

Every year in February, we run elections across the whole student body. Any student can run for any position and all students can vote.
